![]() Established in 1920, Littleover Lane in Derby is an 11.8 acre site with 171 plots (view map of the area). There are number of long term plot holders, several of whom have been here since the Second World War. One member, who joined in the 1970s, is now in her 90s.
Facilities
The site is very proud of its school horticultural centre - this includes a large greenhouse and walled garden as well as a museum housing old tools and machinery. We also have several communal and wildlife areas at the site, including a five plot nature area called the "Kingfisher Project", which is governed by a local panel. Many individual plots also have their own ponds. Visits, Events & CompetitionsWe see over 600 junior school children a year on school visits. We also participate in the National Garden Scheme - gardens open for charity (Yellow Book). The association have taken an active part in the biennial Eco-Fest over the years and enter the Derby in Bloom - Allotment competition. We have won over 20 prizes for the 1995 - 2007 period, including Best Site in 2006. In the future we also plan to hold our own competitions. Check the events page to find out what's coming up.Ownership & ManagementThe site is owned by the LLAA and the plot holders are tenants, paying an annual rent for their plots. The LLAA is registered with the Financial Services Authority as a non profit organisation, and is also a member of the National Society of Allotments and Leisure Gardeners. |
