The site is mainly clay soil which can be heavy to work but it is very fertile. Prior to becoming an allotment site the land was the site of a long established market garden and has been well managed for over 150 years.
All plots are accessed by what we call avenues and plot holders are responsible for maintaining the hedges along the avenue. We have 193 plots of varying shapes and sizes:
- A full plot is approximately 250 square metres.
- A half plot is approximately 125 square metres.
- Starter plots are 1/8th of a full plot. These plots are designs for those who may be new to gardening or allotments. They are available for one year (or at the end of the next growing season) after which time plot holders are expected to move onto a larger plot. They are equipped with a tool box and we have mentors to support and advise new gardeners or allotmenteers.
All member plot holders are association members and hold shares (these are unredeemable and non transferable). Gate keys are available on a £50.00 deposit which is repaid when the key is returned. All keys remain the property of the association.

Annual rent is due on 1st October each year and plot holders starting after October will pay rent pro rata.
All tenants begin with a six month probation period after which time they are expected to have 2/3 of the plot cultivated. We work very hard to maintain the site and plot inspections take place twice a year.
